Beautiful People Hates People Getting Fat

4 January 2010 No Comment

Making the “after the holidaze buzz” today is a website named Beautiful People dot com. Sorry, but I’m not giving them a link. What’s making them buzzworthy is the news that they kicked out 5000 members for having gained weight over the holidays.

According to Mashable.com, the site admins sent email notices to 5000 members telling them that they’d been kicked out from the social networking site for being too fat. The emails also included a recommendation to “preferred” fat camps where the former members could go get back in shape.

There’s no mention of exactly what constitutes “being fat” in the site’s eyes. There’s also no notice about when the site became qualified to profess about people’s weight, but I digress.

Personally, I’d never heard of this site and had it not been for this “news item” I would never had heard about them.

Never mind how shallow it may seem on the surface, but what I think is going on is a clever, even if it is in bad taste, campaign to increase the site’s profile in the search engines. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Believe me, if there really were 5000 people that got kicked out from the site more than one of them would’ve posted the email they received.

Apparently, people getting fat is not beautiful and beautiful people aren’t fat.

I have a suggestion for anyone that is concerned about having gained weight over the holidays, get thee to the trails! That’s what I’ll be doing now that I got my clearance to start running again from the doctor.
