10 mile run

11 December 2005 3 Comments

The 10 mile run was a lot of fun. The course was hilly in the middle, which was interesting to say the least. If there’s one thing that I’d like to change about my training it’s that I’d like to do more hills than what I’m doing now. The first few hills were hard, but after I got warmed up, it was easy as pancakes to hit the hills. Most of the people in my group took off once we got back to the flat terrain, but they were also running a bit faster than the pace. Actually, I think that with the hills and the walking I was going way slower than pace. I also managed to confirm/ determine where my wall is at. I hit the wall between miles 8-9. That’s when I have to put a serious push to get through it, once I get past mile 9, I feel like I can run for ever and a day. Just thought I’d share. Next weekend, 25k (15.5 miles) benchmark run. Next Friday is my burfday, but I’m not doing anything that day since I want to give myself a good run on the 25k run.

12/10/05 Run Stats

Terrain: Dirt trail, asphalt, some cement sidewalk
Route: From TxDOT, we went west, to the Mopac foot bridge. from there, we went left along Stratford Drive (towards the Nature Center) to Barton Springs Road. We took a right on Barton Springs Road to Rollingwood. We took a right on Rollingwood past a park w/softball fields & swimming pool, which was at the corner of Rollingwood & Gentry where there was a water stop, stretch stop, rest stop. The only thing missing at the stop was beer, but that’s another story. After the stop, we went right on Gentry to Nixon where we took another right and went to Hatley. We took another right on Vale, back to Rollingwood and headed back. We crossed the footbridge, to the north side of Town Lake and went east to Congress Street bridge, go up the stairs at the Raddison, crossed the bridge and headed down the ramp, back onto the trail and back to TxDot.
Distance: Approx. 10 miles
Time: 2:02:34
Pace: 12:15 mi.
Noteworthy: I need to run more hills. I found my wall, and I need to really work on staying on pace before, during and after hills. Oh yeah, also keep on pace while I’m getting through the wall.
