15.5 miles, aka 25 k

19 December 2005 2 Comments

So, everything went pretty much according to plan on Friday night and I was able to be in bed on time. I was asleep by midnight, which is what I wanted, and I only had 1 beer. I was all psyched when I went to bed for a great run. Then, I overslept. I didn’t set my backup alarm, so when I turned off the primary alarm, there was no backup to make sure that I was awake. So, at 8, I finally get going and head downtown to go run. I was supposed to be there by 7:10, oops. I don’t actually get going until a little after 8:30. I really didn’t feel like running at first. But I knew that if I didn’t make the full run, I would hate myself later on. I guess I was just trying to break down the run into smaller blocks so I didn’t have to think about the monumental 15 miles. I ran with my iPod Nano, which I had on it’s lanyard headphones. At first I was all self conscious about people looking at me, but then I realized that they were all staring at the iPod and not me.

Long story short, I had to make a pit stop en route, and I dunno what it was, but something that I ate made me shit green. Not sure what was up with that, but after I made that pit stop, I felt way better and kept on going. I felt really good going up the little hills and I also felt strong in general. I caught up to the back of the pack on the out and back from the longhorn dam out to Riverside, and they all said I look strong. I’m glad they didn’t see me on the way back, cuz I looked like death warmed over. I was all delirious since I was by myself. I questioned why is the Riverside ACC campus named that way when it’s on Grove street? Another thing was a sign that said “If you lived here, you’d be home already”. I thought to myself “no, I wouldn’t be home, I still have to run back to TxDot!”

I did run most of the way back from the dam to TxDot, so that was good, but I did fall behind pace when I was on the way back from the out and back. I was way hungry at the end of the run, eventhough I brought a clif bar with me. Mental note, bring more than one cliff bar on the long runs. Mental note: find out what Lisa does to keep her group together like that.

Run Stats:
Terrain: Mostly dirt trail, cement sidewalk and some asphalt.
Distance: 15.5 miles
Time: 3:25:05
Pace: 13:14/ mile
Route: From TxDot, west on the trail to the mopac bridge, across the bridge to longhorn dam, go around to the foot path under the road at the dam. Through the riverside sports plex, past ACC riverside to Riverside Drive, then back to the dam. Once at the dam, back on the trail to TxDot.
Noteworthy: I was on pace for the first 10 miles, but in the last 5 miles I fell behind. Sucks cuz I was working on staying on pace during the first 10, but in the last 5, I was so hungry and just fell way back. I walked a lot during the last 5 miles and I know that I was running way slow. It’s all good, since what matters is to cover the distance.
