God And Fitness

The Connection Church in Buda/KyleI went to church this past Sunday, and of all things, the sermon focused on fitness and better health. Funny how that happens.

My pastor had a cool acronym that I wanted to share with y’all. The acronym was DIET.

D – Develop a healthy view of your body
I – Get Inspired to change
E – Eat and Exercise right
T – Team up with others

Most of the points from the sermon centered around developing a healthy view of your body from both a physical and spiritual standpoint. Unhealthy attitudes like:

  • Rejecting your body -> Leads to poor self esteem or not valuing your body enough or at all.
  • Perfecting your body -> Obsessing over your body and how to make it “perfect.”
  • Neglecting your body -> Not worrying about your body until you have to for medical or some other reason.

Out of these 3, I think that I’m most guilty of neglecting my body.

Moving on, pastor Cole talked about how and why to get inspired to change. It comes down to several spiritual and physical reasons, among them:

  • You’ll feel better
  • You’ll look better
  • You’ll live better and longer

The plan that was presented to us essentially says that we should eat and exercise right so you can maintain your ideal body weight. Balance what you eat, commit to a regular exercise plan, get enough sleep and reduce and/ or avoid alcohol.

The real gem was the idea that we should team up with other people so you will be accountable to a group. It’s easy to slack off when it’s just you that knows that you’re slacking.
