Today, at lunch, I finally made it out to the trailhead for the new section of the Purgatory trail in San Marcos. The trailhead is located at the corner of Hunter Road and Wonder World Drive, right at the beginning of the new Wonder World drive extension.
Parking, is kind of small, and there are big boulders jutting out that can make parking tricky is you’re in a big truck. Other than that, the trail was awesome.
Nice soft dirt with some rocks thrown in, perfect for trail running. Just make sure you follow the route outlined with the stumps with the blue tops. Otherwise, you’ll end up at a dead end with marked with a barbed wire fence.

The best part, for me, is that the new section of the trail joins up with the old section of the trail. So you can still get in a little bit of running over limestone rocks, if you’re into that sort of thing.

This was my first outing in the new Beasts, and of course, I had to get them a little muddy

I will be back to this trail since it’s so close to my office and I really enjoy it. Plus, I spotted a couple of other routes that I hadn’t ever seen before, so I’ll need to check them out too.
Have you been out to the new section of the Purgatory trail yet?
