Swimming again, plus a bonus plan

Well, well, well, look who made his way back to the water. After a much too long hiatus from swimming, I’ve recommitted myself to the cause. I will be swimming at least 3 times a week from here on out, as well as running and when it gets a bit warmer or when the mood strikes me, mountain biking as well. I’m gonna get buff by the time summer rolls around. I decided this morning that I’m tired of being fat. I want to lose at least 50lbs come July.

So, the plan of action is:

  • Watch what I eat, not just for the sport of it, but to actually pay attention to what I’m ingesting.
  • Reduce portion sizes. I don’t really eat a lot of junk, but what I do eat, is way too much. Changing jobs will help a lot with this since there are no jars full of chocolate and candy laying around that I can raid.
  • Maintain my exercise level. I feel like I get enough exercise and don’t really need to increase any particular activity. That having been said, I do want to do more weights and maybe do that body sculpting class they have at Gold’s to increase my tone.
  • Stick to the plan
  • Run faster. This morning while I was swimming, I realized that if I ran faster, I’d be able to increase my distances in the same amount of time. Call it a Madden moment if you will. Picture me running along at my buffalo speed, and John Madden doing the commentary with his little pen thing and circling me while saying “here’s a guy that when he runs faster, he can cover more distance in the same amount of time”.
  • Keep swimming. The universe seems to work better when I swim. My universe anyway.
  • Find cool bike trails so I can ride them or run them as the case may be.
  • Look at a schedule of trail runs so I can setup the runs to train to run Sunmart 50k this year, Bandera 100k next year and Zane Grey the year after that.
  • Take some kind of nutritional supplement. Need to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I need at least a vitamin complex and maybe something with protein or whatever. GNC, here I come.

That’s it for now. I figure if I put it in writing, I’ve got to follow through with it. As Forest Gump would say “that’s all I have to say about that.”
