This week, I made it out to the Purgatory trail in San Marcos twice. Both times, the weather was absolutely glorious. High fifties one day, low sixties the next. Both days had bright sunny skies with nary a cloud in sight.
I ran 2 miles on both days, but on the second day, I ran at a significantly slower pace than the first. Not to worry, because the second day I was actually doing intervals.
During that second outing, I started off by walking for 2 minutes and running/jogging for 1, until I got to the 10 minute mark. At that point, I switched to running 2 and walking 1. Towards the end of the outing, I was doing closer to 3 running and 1 walking.
My goal, is to increase my running time to 8 minutes and keep the walking time at 1 minute. I think that if I am able to keep up that interval, I should be able to complete my first ultra trail marathon in a fairly decent time.
Oh yes, I figured I should mention that I ran the loop from the parking lot at Hunter Rd and Wonder World Drive through to the older section of the trail on the opposite side of Wonder World and back.
