Great Trails At Walnut Creek Park In Austin

I went out to Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park in Austin with my favorite running partner today. For the record, my son is my favorite running partner.

When we first go to the park, I was a little nervous because there were more cars than what are normally there. Turns out, there were a couple of big parties, but nothing big enough to close the park or the trails.

Off into the shiggy we went.

We’d been going for about 1 minute or so, when my son says “I wonder where that trail goes” pointing to one of the little side trails that veer off from the main trail. “Let’s find out” was my answer, so we followed the trail through some really nice shiggy, all the way down to a little tributary creek.

We made our way across the creek, then while trying to find trail on the other bank, just as I was telling my son to be careful making his way through here because there are some serious brambles here, I cut my leg thusly:

I didn’t notice it at the time, but I also managed to cut my ankle on the opposing leg. I just didn’t see it because I was distracted by this much larger gash.

In any case, a little trail cut never stopped me before, and I wasn’t about to let it start now. We had a great time out there today. Even though it was a short outing, both distance and time wise, it’s always a great time when I get to spend time on trail with my son.

I love that he enjoys being out on trail and that he likes to explore and asks the ever important: “where does that trail go?” question. I should mention that I paused the GPS for a bit and then forgot to restart it, so even though the map is for only 1.37 miles, we actually went further than that.
