The HOL today

28 May 2006 No Comment

So, I finally made it out to HOL and actually ran the hill. I did 2 repeats and am proud to say that I did better than I thought I would. I ran up about 1/2 way each time before walking for a bit, but the second time around, I ran more than I walked.

I took off running down the path at the top of the hill and thought that I’d have enough time to go around and come down on the opposite side of the hill, through the thick shiggy, but alas, I ran out of time. I turned around and came back down the hill, across the creek and then started running up that other hill out to my car. I need more time or I need to go faster.

I ended up running up this second hill more than I ever had too. I was surprised by that, and had I not been so surprised I may have gone further up the hill than I did. Where does the improvement come from? I figured out that my strides were too long. I came to that conclusion from reading other people’s running blogs as well as reading other running sites. The change in my stride, allowed me to run more than I had been doing. Amazing what a little technique can do.

I saw a bunch of people I knew, well ok, 2 people I knew and some other people that seemed surprised to see a fat ass like me running around up and down that hill. Screw’em. Anyway, I’d originally planned on being out for 45 minutes tops, but ended up being out there for 58 minutes. All in all, I had a great time out there and wished I could be out there for longer. After the run, I felt awesome. I wasn’t sore or anything, simply awesome.
