Trail Running Around East Town Lake

This weekend, my son and I went out trail running on the east side of townlake. We went down the hike and bike trail on the east side of I-35 over to Longhorn Dam and back.

We did a short route, less than 3 miles, since the temperature was well over 100 degrees.

Here are a few of the pictures that I took when we were out.

The City of Austin has spent years trying to figure out what to do with this plant. I can’t remember if the plant is still in use or if it’s just sitting there idle and waiting for its fate.

The plaque indicates that the dam is built at a crossing that is a part of the fabled Chisholm Trail. So, when you’re going across the dam, you’re also running on a historical trail/path.

Looking at this, it's hard to believe this is in the middle of Austin

The Hike and Bike trail on the east side of I-35 takes you over the top of the dam. It’s a really narrow footpath. Usually, if someone is coming in the opposite direction, one of you has to stop to let the other person pass. Specially if that other person is on a bicycle.

The footpath along the top of the dam. Reminds me of Rockwall.

After the run, I had me a nice bowl of Chicken Tom Kha soup. Which was delicious, but probably not the best choice to have something hot, after running in the heat.
