This past Saturday, completely by accident, I managed to get the calorie counter working when I was at Body Pump at the Y.

I was really excited to see what my heart rate would be like during the class, given the surprisingly high rate that I managed to reach when I was out running the day before. I was also excited to see what the reading would be from the calories burned indicator thing since I’ve never measured this class and never had a way to measure or estimate my caloric expenditure before.
The class, was just a normal Body Pump class, nothing special. I think there may have been exercises from several different series mixed together, which is pretty par for the course. One of the songs, involved doing 16 squats for several repeats.
To make a long story short, the highest I saw my heart rate, was 169, which I believe is the optimum for someone of my height and weight. The average of all the readings that I saw was 160. So I was in a pretty narrow band, but right in the middle of the optimum fat burning range that I need to be in.
The real surprise, came from the calorie counter. According to it, I burned 847 calories during the 1 hour class. Simply, amazing.
So yeah, Body Pump for the win!

Was is your height and weight when you took this class???
