Greenbelt with Gordon and Dan

This morning, I woke up with terrible pain in my left shoulder. I have a partial tear in my rotator cuff in that shoulder, which every so often acts up. It’s an old swimming injury that I got one day while showing off how much I could bench. Anyway, I think this current flare up started off last Sunday when I fell on trail, I think I hurt my shoulder somehow. Long story short, I woke up this morning and the shoulder felt better than yesterday, but not well enough to run with.
Gordon emailed and called me and basically suggested that I man up and go run. Gordon called Dan and there you have it. It was the first time that I went running with these guys and I had a great time with them. Unfortunately, after about the first half, I started to feel light headed. We ended up walking most of the second half of the route. I figured out, that it was probably the 400 mg of ibuprophen that I took to help numb the shoulder pain that caused the issue. I think I was dehydrated among other things.
I also remembered that eventhough it was close to one in the afternoon I still had not had breakfast or lunch. I also couldn’t remember if I had dinner last night or not. I honestly don’t know where my apetite has gone, but it’s gone somewhere without me. I just forget to eat.
Even after the run, I forgot to eat when I got home. I had a banana but then didn’t eat real food until almost 5 in the afternoon. I don’t know that I should be worried about this yet. Mike suggested, that it’s just my body adjusting to its new metabolism. I simply have a lot of fuel already on board so I’m just not getting hungry while my body is using up the fat stores. I dunno, it sounds good to me.
Anyway, I think I’ll be running with Gordon and Dan again, it was a lot of fun and the conversation was great. We talked about all kinds of stuff, from mitochondrial energy stores to ending a sentence with a preposition to the tarahumara Indians and Scott Jurek. Good times, good times.
Should I be worried that I have no apetite?

Sometimes I lose my appetite when I’m dehyrated. And I’m usually not hungry right after a hard run. The hunger usually hits hours later.

i wouldn’t worry…but i’d eat! and drink. get your body the fuel it needs. glad you found some great people to run with! have you seen the pics of sj running with the tahahumara? and…your opinion on ending a sentence with a preposition?
(sorry, not getting any running in, which equals no random running talk. i gotta get it all virtually!)

I suggest you go all “shakey”.
Here’s the receipe for Gordon’s super shake. I just put stuff in a blender that I like really
1. banana
1. handful of almonds
1. handful of frozen berries
1. scope of Soy protein powder (vanilla)
1. scoop of vitamin C powder
Add fat free organic milk to taste (gloopiness) and liquidize the hell out of it
Oh…drink it down, down, down every morning.

My position, is that you can end a sentence with a preposition. The English grammar books were copied from Latin, which is what the Romance languages are based on. In Latin based languages, you cannot end a sentence with a preposition, because among other things, the sentence will make no sense. English is a Germanic language, and eventhough it may seem clunky, you can end a sentence with a preposition, as Winston Churchill did when he said something along the lines of:
“Tyranny is something with which up I shall not put”
Gordon - You drank the koolaid, welcome to the club. Thanks for the recipe, now all I need is a blender.

i agree - i think it often makes more sense to be able to end a sentence with a preposition. the good news is most of the style/grammar books are beginning to agree, yay!
