America’s unhealthiest drinks
By rafael ~ May 19th, 2008. Filed under: Weight Loss, generic blog stuff.
I just came across this article on Yahoo! that talks about the unhealthiest drinks in the nation. I wasn’t exactly surprised by a couple of the drinks on the list nor was I surprised about their composition. I think that anyone that reads the labels could’ve figured out that something called “Vitamin water” which is made by Coca-Cola isn’t exactly healthy. I don’t care what kind of vitamins the drink claims to have, if it takes 33grams of sugar to deliver it, it’s not worth it to me.
You may be wondering what the unhealthiest drink is, it’s the Baskin Robbin’s Large Heath Bar Shake.
It comes in with stats that are nothing short of spectacular, check this out:
- 2,310 calories
- 266 grams of sugar!
- 108 grams of fat!
According to the article, this little gut buster has 73 ingredients, takes 66 teaspoons of sugar and has the equivalent “nutritional” value of 11 Heath bars. Now that’s impressive.
I knew that you needed to watch not only what you eat, but also what you drink, but I had no idea that a 32 oz drink could pack such a wallop.

I prefer to eat my calories, not drink them!
I like this blog. I am probably going to do the San Antonio Marathon in November. Do you know anyone doing it or know of any running groups? I need some help to get through the long training runs. My fastest marathon time is 3:25, but I would say my long run pace is around 9 minute pace.

That’s a really good pace, in my opinion. I know of a couple of groups, but they’re all in Austin. There’s Austin Fit, Rogue Running, and I can’t remember one of the other ones. There may be a San Marcos Fit, but I’m not sure about that. I’ll add the ones that I find to my blogroll.

Those nutrition stats are shocking. I think I’ve heard of food and drinks this tasty but unhealthy referred to “food porn” (I don’t remember the source, sorry).
Good luck on the trails!

Rafael,
I’m also working on getting more fit out on the trails in my area (Florida).
