San Antonio Marathon

Last night, for our church group meeting, we went out to the park and exercised. The kids had a combination of scooters and bikes, and I was on my bike.
I’d decided to use the bike since my foot is still acting up, going on 5 months now! I’ve been swimming but that just really doesn’t cut it for me anymore. I swam at a highly competitive level for over 15 years, and I just can’t swim and not think about how fast I used to be. Don’t get me wrong, I love open water races, like the cap2k, and the dam 5k, but swimming just isn’t my thing much anymore.
I rode around for a few laps of the loop on my bike, and had a decent time riding around. I won’t bore you with the details, but I decided to walk instead of riding my bike.
It was AWESOME!
Just being out in nature, on this “trail” was great. It’s what I love to do. I didn’t realize how much I missed being on trail.
Long story short, one of the women in the group is thinking about running the San Antonio Marathon. Michelle ran that course a couple of years back and mentioned to her how much that course sucked. I chimed in, and said that I had yet to hear of anyone saying anything good about the course.
Well, enter Rock’n'Roll Marathon, and the newly designed course. Designed by none other than Roger Soler. The new course, is not a double loop around the badly paved, usually cobblestoned, sharp corner having downtown area. Instead, it’s a single loop that goes around of the historic districts of San Antonio and is supposed to be a pleasure to run.
That got me thinking, we’re about 20 weeks out from that race, I wonder if I can get in shape to run it… I wonder if my foot will hold up to the training… I wonder if I can train for it…
I was thinking about running the Austin Marathon, it too has a new loop course as opposed to the A to B course of years past. Training for the Austin Marathon begins in August or September, and the San Antonio race is in November.
Hmmm…
My little hamster wheel is turning, thinking of the possibilities of a dual marathon season…
