There’s A Snake In My Boot!

Not really, literally “there’s a snake in my boot” but rather I went really near one. I need to remember that snakes, specially rattle snakes, like to hide under rocks to keep cool. I had an encounter with one yesterday when I was going through here.

Purgatory Creek Park Snake Pit

I heard it, but I didn’t see it, which only made it worse.

After I regained my composure and my bollocks returned to their normal position, I gingerly made my way out of this area. The bad part is that from here, trail goes into some really high grass so I couldn’t really see where I was stepping.

I had visions of stepping into a hole, twisting my ankle and falling onto a rattlesnake then rolling over onto a fire ant mound. Yeah, that.

I won’t be exploring this section of Purgatory Creek park anymore.

It’s not that I’m afraid of snakes or anything like that. Snakes usually scurry away before you get near them, and this was not my first encounter with a snake on trail.

I just have this thing about dying from a snake bite while out in the middle of nowhere. It’s just not my thing.
