Hill of life tandem run
I ran with a partner today. I hadn’t run with a partner since the last time that Lesley and I ran together in the greenbelt starting from the 360 access. Today, I took Lesley to the hill of life, since she’d never run it and well, I wanted to run some hills.
After we got to the access, I realized that I forgot to tell her to bring her camelback, so she was sans agua. I had plenty of water in mine, but I need to remember to always make sure that whoever comes with me has their own supply of water and food.
We started down the hill, and veered off one of the side trails just like the last time I was here. I did this so we could stay out of the sun as well as to hide the true beauty of the hill from her. I wanted her to experience the hill when we went up it on the way back, no need to spoil the fun. Is that sadistic of me?
We ran down the side trails and ended up at the dam, which she thought was awesome. We crossed the dam and from there, we went up the hill to the overlook. When I was doing the 30k last week, when I came to this spot I thought that I wanted her to see it, so there we were. We came back down the hill and I offered her the option of heading back to the car and making the run time about 35 minutes, or go run some more hills.
She opted for more hills, and I obliged.
We ran up the side trails on the far side of the dam, had some water, ran around on the top side of the hill and then ran down the sweet downhill with the wood chips on it. We made our way back to the dam to complete the short loop on this side of the water.
We crossed the dam again, and started making our way to the hill of life. We ended up taking a couple of breaks going up the hill of life. It was really hot and the sun was beating down on us.
I think I over did it with the hills since she told me that she hadn’t been doing hills before we started and well, she was looking mighty flush on the way back to the car. Lesley now knows my nemesis and I think the hill of life has become her nemesis too. I did run up some of the hill, but not much of it, we mostly hiked up it.
Anyway, total run time was 1 hour, all of which was nothing but pure fun running around the trails, going up and down hills.
I think later this week I’m going to give Melissa’s hill death run a try. It’s a 16 mile round trip, so it probably won’t be until Thursday at the earliest that I give it a shot. I have an interview tomorrow for a new job, and after an outing like today’s, I feel psyched. Wish me luck!

You mention “partner” and Leslie and it makes you sound pretty gay to the Austin crowd!
Good luck on the interview! Let me know if you need help quitting your present job, I’ve had pleanty of experience in that area lately.
I’m not worried about my masculinity, so I can use those terms however I want.
Thanks for the well wishes, and yes, I’ll let you know if I need your help with quitting this job.
What’s the Melissa’s Hill Death run?
So your hills have names too? One of my neighborhood hills has been deemed Punishment Hill. Hope your interview went well!
