Long run day

So, I finally and I do mean FINALLY got to go on a long run. It had been about 2 weeks since I’ve had time to do a double digit run. The original plan, called for me to go out for 8 miles, come back meet up with Lesley and then do an additional 5 with hills.

While I was out on the 8, I got a text from Lesley cancelling on me. Since she cancelled, I had the genius idea to just keep going, which I did. Well, right as I was approaching mile 5, I figured out why I wanted to turn back in the first place. My camelback will last me for about 8 miles on a single filling. I needed to go back and meet up with her so I could refuel, or reload up on water, or whatever you want to call it. There’s no place to get more water once your’re out on the greenbelt. I decided to turn back, and then began to ration my drinking, which is always a bad idea. It was getting hot, and I was dripping with sweat.

It was a very long last 3 miles, and this time, the hill of life had me beat down pretty well until I was about half way up. Right around then, I met an angel in the form of a very cute and very small blonde lady who was coming down the hill as I was going up. The sun was behind her so I couldn’t really look at her, plus I was getting dehydrated so I couldn’t really see straight anyway. She was in such a great mood and just so happy to be outside that I caught some of her joi d’vive (or however you spell it) and that helped me get up the hill and to my car.

I didn’t do the hill part that I’d planned on since I was so freaking thirsty, but I plan to make up for it tomorrow after work. I was happy with the run and simply happy with being outside in the beautifuul day yesterday.

Cheers!

Got to watch that water in this heat. I ran out the other day. Thats when I start looking for outside taps on homes that I’m passing.

On really hot days I park at 360 and run to HOL, and then back to the car for cold water and powerade, then down to Zilker. I drink a ton of water in the second half of my long runs (in the summer) and that works well for me.

Do you really need to be prompted to drink? Long runs are good. Keep on runnin.
