I was missing HOL (hill of life), so I went out to see my nemesis last night. I started off down the powerline loop, and noticed a couple of new trailheads that are just begging to get explored. The beauty of trail running and training for long runs is that you get the perfect excuse to go down new trails. I made a mental note of where the new trails are and plan to go check them out for my long run this Sunday.
Anyway, I went down HOL, then across the now dry dam and up the hill on the other side. I ran pretty much the whole time I was going up the hill. Once to the top, I took a small walk break, then started running again, and ran all the way down the hill. I crossed over the dam and was heading back to HOL, when I decided that I wanted more. So, eventhough it was well after sunset, I decided to run down to Sculpture falls and added another 1.5 miles to my run. It was awesome. The weather was nice and cool-ish no one was on trail and the whole place was mine to enjoy.
After reaching sculpture falls, I ran back to and then up HOL and felt great. I could’ve and would’ve done another repeat had I not been so chicken about it being dark and no one knowing where I was. Oh well, another day. It was a good hour and 20 minutes out on trail. I like that I felt like I could’ve gone longer.
I seriously need to get on a more regimented training routine and decide which 50k and which 50 mile race I am going to go do. I’m pretty sure that I do want to run Bandera 100k next January. On a slightly different note, I checked my “skinny belt” and it fits me now. I can wear it on the first notch. Not that I’m skinny, but I managed to get into it. All the more positive reinforcement.

Great run!
So guys have skinny belts, huh? For gals, its the skinny jeans. : )
Have fun figuring out your schedule!
Have you checked out the Rogue Sunmart/Bandera program? Its posted now, starts in September- I’m looking forward to running with a group again!
sounds like a fantastic run!!!
skinny belt, woo hoo!!!
looking forward to watching your training for the ultras, whichever ones you do! you could always make a road trip out here to Tucson for the OP50 mile in March! (but you have to sign up as soon as registration opens, since it sells out quickly)
Hmmm, road trip for an ultra…
I can’t do Rogue cuz I have to work on Saturdays and late on Wednesdays.
How about you just train for the Austin Freescale Marathon with the rest of us mere mortals? Feb 07
