Hill of life goodness and an update

7 January 2009 No Comment

I was going to catch up on all the missing posts but decided against it. A lot of them, I just don’t remember, and on top of that, the runs were really shitty and I’d rather forget them than relive them.

I volunteered to be a coach for one of the marathon training groups in town. I volunteered last year and had a blast, but since I was working at the dealership and working Saturdays I wasn’t able to volunteer until now. I start training with them in the morrow and we’re doing a 7 mile route. The only bad thing, is that it’ll be on roads and I’ve been running on trails so much that I dunno that I’ll be able to stay awake running on a boring road.

Trail runner snobbery I guess.

So, the plan will now includes the ATT Austin marathon in February and freaking SunMart in December and maybe Bandera in January. We’ll see.

Yesterday’s run, was a lot of fun. I drove the 2.07 miles from my office to hill of life and rather than going down the power line loop, I started down the hill and veered off one of the side trails. I made my way down, across the dam and then up the hill on the other side. Ran over the little wooden bridge thing, up along the side of the mountain (when is a hill a mountain anyway?) and back down the hill on the other side with the wood chips.

I came up to my nemesis, and smiled at her. She was thinking she was going to beat me down, but I had something else in mind. I ran up the hill, all the way. It was freaking awesome. I got to the top, nearly out of breath, but I did it. All the while, I kept hearing brown eye in my head (I know that’s a dangerous thing) going “Hill of life is the toughest hill in Austin”. That gave me motivation to run up the hill and show it who’s boss. After I got to the top, I stretched, caught my breath, walked to my car and drove home.

Run Stats:
Distance: Approx 4 miles
Time: 47:44
Summary: Felt good once I got warmed up. I didn’t want to stop at all and at the end, I felt like I should’ve run longer. Basically, a great run.
