Weight loss update

7 May 2008 No Comment

My loss rate, meaning the rate at which I am losing weight seems to have tapered off a bit. I’ve lost another 2lbs, this past week. I’m now weighing in at a “paltry” 349lbs. I’m 1/4 of the way to my goal weight, but I can’t help but feel disappointed in my progress.

I think that the hardest thing in the weeks since my last update has got to be in keeping to the portion control and to the controlled, purposeful eating. Sometimes I wish I was taking a pill to help control my appetite, but I know that my control problems are not fixable with a pill. I just need to refocus my energy to the core principles of:

  • Eating when I’m hungry
  • Eating purposefully
  • Stopping eating when I’m full
  • Eat whatever I want

Those are the basic tenets of the program.

The program does not require that I join a gym, nor does it require that I exercise. It doesn’t require that I buy anything.  There’s no meal plan, no exercise plan, no magic pill that I need to take.  The best part about it, is that it’s a free weight loss plan.

I’m exercising regularly just because I want to and because I can. I thought that the exercise in combination with reduced food intake would kick my weight loss into higher gear, a “free weight loss” if you will.  What seems to have ended up happening is that I’m hungrier, and eating more that I need to.

I guess I shouldn’t really complain, 2 lbs lost per week is probably a healthy average and something that can be sustained over time.

In a year’s time, I would’ve lost a smidge over 100 lbs at that rate. I just need to focus and stay on task with the program. There you go.
