Corporate Weight Control

24 June 2008 No Comment

This link is to a video over on CNN about some new rules that the Japanese government has instituted pertaining weight. Turns out, the Japanese government has decided that it will fine companies who’s workers and their families are over weight, as determined by a measurement of their waist

So you ask:

How big does your waist have to be in order to be considered overweight?

Button-fly belly

33 inches if you’re male, 35 if you’re female.

Yikes!

Can you imagine if the U.S. government imposed fines and regulations like that? What candidate would go to bat for that sort of regulation? It’s not a constitutional right to be fat, people just are fat.

I love the part in the video where they basically blame american fast food and “american style” eating for the bulging Japanese waist line. When I say “bulging” I really mean “bulging.” This really begs George Carlin’s question: have you ever seen a fat red headed Japanese guy?

Somehow, I get the feeling that government and employer mandated weight loss will not really work in this country. Specially the part about having to measure family members.
