Oh my goodness. Michelle and I tried the pilates class at the YMCA yesterday. It was supposed to be a beginner’s class, but my first sign should have been that someone had scratched out the word “beginner” and hand written in the words “Abs and glutes”.
OMG, that class was hard.
Michelle had done pilates classes before, so she had an idea about what she was in for. This was my first time taking a pilates class, so I think I had a harder time with the workout than she did.
I think the hardest part of the workout, was the part where we were doing the air chair. Have y’all heard about this? Basically, you lean up against the wall, with your legs bent at a 90 degree angle, as if you’re sitting in a chair, only there is no chair.
Then it gets hard.
From there, you’re supposed to pick up one of your legs, extend it for a certain number of repetitions, then you swap legs.
To paraphrase Lance Armstrong: “OMG. Ouch. Terrible.”
I won’t even get into talking about the abs work and the glutes work that we did. I don’t want you to think that this was an awful experience. I loved it.
I loved the instructor. She was very involved with everyone in the class and was paying attention to everyone, making sure that we were all holding the proper pose/ position for the maximum effect. It was a great class and I can’t wait until I come back to another one of these.
I’m super sore today, which may be from the strep throat that I’m trying to fight off, but I’m thinking it’s probably from the pilates.
Seriously folks, if they have a pilates class at your gym, go to it. I don’t think that there’s a more fun way to work on your core muscles.

That’s for girls!
You shoulda seen some of the hotties that were in that class.
Hmm, OK, sign me up then. Oh wait, you are talking about women, right?
Yes, I’m talking about the women
