So, after a weird night, in which I don’t remember exactly what happened except that I was talking to my roommate about something or another and she was on the phone with someone else. Anyway, I get up on time for once and get ready to go, but then I chill.
I get to the site and the seminar is just finishing up, perfect timing.
I stretch with the groups and then as we’re splitting up into our different color groups I run into my friend Eunice, who’s running with a cast on her wrist so hats off to her. Then I see Sherlyn who’s talking to my friend Ralph, I dunno about what, but I interrupt their conversation when I say hi.
I decided to run with the 12 minute group today, instead of the 11:30 or the 11:45 groups and I talk Sherlyn into running with me. She usually runs with the 12:30 group so she’s a little concerned about being able to keep up the pace. After the usual hellos and banter we get going.
The route today will take us out from the parking lot heading east onto the hike and bike trail, then west along the trail towards Mopac. We cross over the lake at the Mopac bridge and stop there for a bathroom break in the stretch area.
Instead of following the prescribed trail down to Deep Eddy and back, then up the short hill at Veterans Blvd, we go along the Waller creek greenbelt (through some shiggy) for about a mile and turn back onto the hike and bike trail.
Sherlyn starts to fall back and I try to stay with her as long as I can, but she tells me to go ahead and go. I tell her which way we’re going and then leave her be.
After we get back on the hike and bike trail we continue along the north shore of the lake to under the Congress Ave. bridge and then up the stairs on the back side of the Raddison. Then back over the lake to the south shore and back to the parking lot along the lake.
The weather was great, it was nice and cool and the sun was just at the right angle.
The camel back performed admirably, although I think that I still need to get used to it. It had just the right amount of water for the run.
All in all it was a good run. I felt strong and at the end I felt like I could’ve gone another 3 miles. Later today, I’ll go on a bike ride along the trail that I’m going to be marking tomorrow morning, so I may or may not have another entry later on today.
