The Airplane Seat

The paradigm

I never really thought about fitting in an airplane until I almost didn’t fit in an airplane seat. It was in a MD80 flight to Salt Lake City, UT and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. Embarrassing too.

On my last airplane ride, en route to Boston MA, I fit comfortably into my seat.

Well, my gut/ butt fit in the seat, my legs still didn’t fit.  Sure this was a 737-900 so the plane is bigger than an MD80, but I like to think that I fit better in the seat thanks to all the running and exercising I’ve been doing.

On a side note, since my legs didn’t fit in the alloted space, I have a bruise on my thigh from where the armrest was rubbing on my leg.

Fitting in the airplane seat is the new fitness test.

Forget aerobic stress tests, glycogen and blood pressure tests. Fitting in a single airline seat is the new fitness test. I failed. The 3 hour leg from Houston to Boston was really uncomfortable because of my seating position.

Still, I felt better walking in the terminal and up the jetway. I was not out of breath like I was during that trip to Salt Lake City.

Overall I felt better about my body on this trip than I did last year on that other trip, but I’m still not happy with it. I hate how big my gut looks when I see my reflection in a mirror.

Dunkin Donuts, the place to eat for skinny people

It’s funny to me how there was no shortage of Dunkin Donuts, but there were no fat people. I don’t know if it was because everyone walks everwhere or what. There were stairs everywhere, specially to get out from the subway.

There were always a bunch of people out running and walking everyday, everywhere we went. It was crazy. Even the little guy on the side of the Dunkin Donuts cup is running.

There weren’t any fat people on the plane either. I didn’t see any fat people until we got back to Texas. I guess everything is bigger in Texas.
