Oh my core
My girlfriend has started working out with me in the mornings. I’ve started going in the mornings because there are never any scheduling conflicts at 5:45.
When you try to work out at the end of the day, there’s always a teleseminar or dinner with friends, or children that need to be tended to. Something always comes up that keeps you from making it to the gym or going out to the woods.
At 5:45 am, the kids are sleeping, everyone’s eaten and it’s noon in yurp and no one is working over there.
Now, there are good things and bad things about working out with my girlfriend. The good things are many, and they feature things like:
- I enjoy her company
- We talk about stuff
- I like the encouragement and so on.
The bad thing, is that she likes to do weird exercises. She has this thing about “working the core” that I don’t understand.
She’s got me doing yoga poses, pilates moves, all kinds of weird crunches etc. My core is so sore, that it hurts to cough and it hurts to laugh. I know I have to work the core and whatnot, but dang.
I don’t foresee the need to go into a “cobra” or “down dog” position when I’m running in the woods, but I do see the advantage of having a strong core when I come up to mile 25. Anyway, doing the core exercises has been a nice change of routine for me.
Even if it does hurt like crazy.
Here’s a video of down dog
And one of Cobra:

Rafael,
In running, engaging your (lower ab) core and leveling your pelvis is the Key to efficient posture and preventing injury. See the presentation here for more info: http://www.eChiFitness.com/lp.html. Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy running,
David.
