About Fat Trail Runner

First things first: I’m fat and I run, deal with it.

If you look through the old, old archives, you’ll find that I finished the Austin Motorola Marathon (it was the Motorola marathon before it was Livestrong) back in 2003 and attempted but had to pull out of the Austin marathon in 2005.

So, here we are.

Why fat trail runner?

Because I’m fat, and I like to run on trails.

Why do I want to get in shape?

Because I’m tired of being fat. At the very least, I’d like to be not as fat as I am now.

What’s going to be on this blog?

Well, I plan on writing about my workouts, my weight loss, cool trails that I find and run, cool people that I meet, cool products that I find and cool races that I want to do but probably won’t. I may also do an occasional podcast or maybe some video interviews with local runners or I may not.

What about that header picture of you running in a road race?

That picture, was taken at about mile 16 when I was running in the Austin Marathon in 2003. I still have that blue shirt, one of my interim goals is to fit in it again.

Speaking of marathons, what’s your best marathon advice?

If you ever plan on attempting a marathon, the best advice I can give you is “plan ahead” and have your own support crew meet you at predetermined points throughout the course. Have your crew carry some fruits (oranges, bananas, etc), Gu packs, water, vaseline, band aids, granola bars, ibuprofen etc. That stuff is priceless after a certain point in the race.

You say you’re fat, how fat are you?

The picture of me below, was taken in December 2010, and is partly responsible for my “reboot” of this blog. At the time this picture was taken, I weighed close to 415 pounds.

My gut during the Christmas holidays 2010

As you can see in that picture, my gut was huge.

Update March 2011

I’m happy to report that I’ve lost about 35 lbs since that picture was taken. Here’s an entry with my weight loss update.

Update April 2011

I edited the text, and wanted to add this picture of me after Body Pump class at the YMCA:

Yep, progress. Goal #1 was to lose 50 lbs “by the summer” but I’m already there. 65 lbs to go to reach goal weight #2.

Update August 2011

Here’s a new picture of me. I think I need to setup a new page with just the progress pics. This picture was taken right after PowerPump class this past Wednesday.
